THE MAP IS NOT THE TERRITORY
2016
The sentence by Alfred Kozybski (the same that later Houllebec used as inspiration for the title of his novel) entitles this series of golden banknotes sprinkled with black resin on a gold surface.
Those imaginary maps on a sea of gold are not other things than luxurious and dirty representations of a world which forms its borders through money. The map is horizontal, the territory does not. The walls grow and shrink in relation to the economic interests of nation States or supranational States. At the end of the day these imaginary cartographies does not cease to be a representation of black money, dirty money from oil, blood or so many other substances that have produced so many victims in a global context in which what matters simply is money.
